Appeals Process For James Price Point Just Lip Service
Adele has accused the State Government of paying lip service only to the appeals process for James Price Point, with Minister Marmion’s announcement of Dr Roy Green being appointed as “an appeals committee.” 09 08 2012 Broome Advertiser
“An appeals committee of one is not appropriate for an appeals process to investigate more than 200 appeals regarding the EPA’s report on the Browse Liquefied Natural Gas Precinct at James Price Point.”
“I call on the Government to appoint a proper appeals committee of at least 2 or more persons in accordance with section 108 (1) of the Environmental Protection Act 1986, to give the appeals committee some legitimacy in the eyes of the public.”
“Dr Green may be too close to the EPA process in any event, given his prior roles as Deputy Chair of the EPA and Chairman of the EPA Review Committee.”.
Adele lodged an appeal on environmental grounds and is the only MP in the Legislative Assembly to speak out in Parliament against the proposed gas processing precinct at James Price Point, (17 February 2011).
“There is already a strong sense of public disbelief over the EPA’s conflict of interest issues which led to 80% of its board being ruled out of the process and the decision effectively made by one individual. It beggars belief that the Government would appoint a one man band to investigate these appeals,” Ms Carles said.
