Mental Health Review Shows Serious Deficiencies
Adele is disturbed at the findings of the Chief Psychiatrist into Fremantle Hospital’s mental health practices.
“It beggars belief that this report has had to spell out such fundamental recommendations for managing mental health patients at Fremantle Hospital,” Adele said.
“I am astounded that some of the report’s recommendations, including comprehensive psychiatric assessments for patients each time they access care, are not already mandatory.”
“It is clear that patients and their carers and families have not been given enough input into and information about their clinical record nor the management of their discharge plan.”
“The system is clearly broken and this report shows a wider inquiry is badly needed into why such basic practices have not been observed.”
“We are talking about some of the most vulnerable people in our community who, along with their families and advocates, deserve much better than they are currently getting from our mental health system.”
Adele wrote to the Coroner, Alistair Hope, in April this year calling for a Coronial Inquiry.
